Quantitative Lesson 66 "Introduction to Stoichiometry"

Science and Technology Standards:

PA Standard 3.4.10A: Classify and describe, in equation form, types of chemical and nuclear reactions

Purpose:

1. I will write the formula for various compounds.
2. I will identify the type of reaction.
3. I will balance chemical equations.
4. I will calculate results using stoichiometry.
5. I will calculate the limiting reagent.

Homework Due:

1. Balancing Equations Take Home Quiz (Due Lesson 67)
2. Semester Test #4 (Lesson 69)

Handouts/Supplies:

I. Introduction

Opening Assignment:

Warm-Up: Complete a fence posting problem.
Review warm-up
State the purpose

II. The Lesson:

Activity #1: Discuss how stoichiometry relates generally unrelated things by using balanced equations and moles / molecules / grams to the real world
Activity #2: Calculate the volume of water using NaOH + HCl → H2O(l) + NaCl(aq)
Activity #3: Calculate the volume of a gas using C5H12 + O2→ H2O(l) + CO2
Activity #4: Discuss Standard Temperature and Pressure
Activity #5: Discuss limiting reagents and stoichiometry
Activity #6: Complete the following Stoichiometry work:
1. Stoichiometry WS #1 (Due L 68)
2. Stoichiometry WS #2 (Due L 69)
