Purpose:

1. I will write the lewis dots for various elements on the periodic table.
2. I will represent ionic bonds for various combinations of elements.
3. I will name various compounds.
4. I will write the formula for various compounds.

I. Introduction

Opening Assignment:

Warm-Up: Write the Lewis dots for K, Mg, Ga, Ge, As, Se, Br, Kr.
Review warm-up
State the purpose

II. The Lesson:

Activity #1: Review the Lewis dots for K, Mg, Ga, Ge, As, Se, Br, Kr
Activity #2: Submit notes on sections 11.1 - 11.6
Activity #3: Discuss the following:
1. Group I - III: loss electrons
2. Groups V - VII: gain electrons
3. Provide examples of ionic bonds with electron transfer (charge), formula, and name using an K, Mg, or Ga and As, Se, or Br
4. Define ionic bonds
5. Define the octet rule
6. Discuss octet, stability and "the troll"
7. Write the electron configuration of K and K1+
Activity #4: Complete the other combinations for ionic bonds
Activity #5: Review the formulas for the ionic bond combinations
