Qualitative Lesson 21 "Regions of the Periodic Table"

Science and Technology Standards:

PA Standard 3.4.10A: Classify and describe, in equation form, types of chemical and nuclear reactions

Purpose:

1. I will identify the noble gas configurations for various elements.
2. I will identify how electrons create light.
3. I will identify the various regions on the periodic table.
4. I will identify the atomic size and ionization energy trends on the periodic table.

Homework Due:

1. Read and take notes on Section 10.11 (Due Lesson 21)
2. Page 119: 31 - 35 in the Modern Chemistry textbook (Due Lesson 21)
3. Pages 309 - 310: 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 - 16, 22, and 23 (Due Lesson 23)

Handouts/Supplies:

1. Colored Pencils

I. Introduction

Opening Assignment:

Warm-Up: Write down the noble gas configuration for Ir, Eu, Pr, Ra, & Pb. Compare it to the accepted noble gas notation using the periodic table (Note any exceptions)
Review warm-up
State the purpose

II. The Lesson:
